Greenwood is a neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. The borders of the area are North 105th Street on the north, 8th Avenue on the west, Aurora Avenue to the east and North 75th Street on the south. Greenwood is located north of downtown Seattle. There are lots of different types of housing in this area. The prices are very reasonable with the average home selling for around $290,000. The price may be lower because there are lots of condos and smaller houses. But in a city where prices are high, there are some surprisingly affordable prices in the community.

Greenwood Elementary School is located just outside the neighborhood. It offers classes to students for children in PK-5. It has received a GreatSchools rating of  6/10 based on standardized state tests for the school year 2010/11.

The Taproot Theatre  is located within the neighborhood and offers a Mainstage season with a variety of production, a touring company and an acting studio. They offer subscriptions and senior and student matinees.

Naked City Brewery  in the community offers the best in locally brewed and crafted beers in addition to their own personal brews. In addition to great beer they also offer lots of delicious food.

Greenwood Park   is a two acre park that was developed on a former commercial lot. It is quite simple with a play area for the neighborhood kids and paths for walking, biking and riding a scooter. The playground equipment is diverse and features things for little children as well as their older brothers and sisters. There is a large green area as well as benches for siting and enjoying as well as picnic areas. Trees are still quite small but in a couple of years there should be plenty of shade.

Green Lake Park  offers the lake which has two beaches and any non-motorized craft is welcome on the water. There are over two miles of trails to be enjoyed as well as a nine hole golf course.

North Seattle Community College  is not within the Greenwood neighborhood but it is within walking distance from part of the neighborhood. It has a student population of over 14,000 and offers a variety of degrees, certificates, continuing education and enrichment classes. This is the starting point for many students who will go on to get their bachelor’s degrees at other state and private colleges and universities.

Greenwood Branch of the Seattle Public Library  is open 7 days a week. This branch offers family story time as well as story time for toddlers and babies. There are also story times in Spanish.  There are dedicated areas for children and teens. This branch building opened in 2005. There are 38 public access computers as well as wireless Internet access. The library has an extensive collection of books, movies and music that members can borrow.

Greenwood may not be one of the hottest neighborhoods in Seattle but it is a good neighborhood with lots of amenities and is priced so that first time buyers can afford to look there.
