If you intend to relocate to the beautiful state of Virginia, looking for safe, peaceful, and family friendly communities can be laborious.  With all the choices available it can be considerably difficult to select the perfect city to call home.

The most popular cities in Hampton Roads are Chesapeake, Hampton, and Yorktown which contain exquisite waterfront properties, fantastic schools, an ample amount of shopping, and 400 years of American History. To minimize research and stress I’ve listed these areas and an overview of each.

Chesapeake is located in the South Hampton Roads area approximately 25 miles west of Virginia Beach and has easy access to the major interstates. Here you will find four main highway bridges; The High Rise Bridge, Jordan Bridge, Steel Bridge, and Gilmerton Bridge. Chesapeake is home to the picturesque Great Bridge community. Great Bridge received its name from the American Revolutionary War Battle of Great Bridge which took place on December 9, 1775, and was home to professional baseball players, Michael Cuddyer and David Wright.  Schools include but not limited to Great Bridge Primary, Great Bridge Intermediate, Great Bridge Middle, and Great Bridge High School. There is a wealth of shopping centers and dining areas in Great Bridge including Great Bridge Shopping Center, Greenbrier Mall, and Chesapeake Crossing. The city of Hampton is approximately 30 miles southwest of Virginia Beach; on the east end of the Virginia Peninsula, and borders on the Hampton Roads Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay. Hampton is home to the Fort Monroe Army Post, Hampton University, NASA Langley Research Center, the Virginia Air and Space Center, and Langley Air Force Base. The city of Hampton was named for Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton who was an important leader of the Virginia Company of London. One of the most popular neighborhoods in Hampton is Colonial Acres which was established in 1985 and has colorful landscaping, stunning trees, and breath taking waterfront properties. The community hosts numerous family events throughout the year and sponsors a welcome basket program for newcomers. In addition Colonial Acres has easy access to schools, shopping, fine dining, and so much more! To learn more about the Hampton area log on to

Yorktown is located along the York River approximately 36 miles south of Norfolk and is recognized as being the site of where General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington on October 19, 1781. One of the most admired neighborhoods in Yorktown is Summer’s Crossing which is situated off Old Williamsburg Road in close proximity to Historic Yorktown. This community is moderately new but has grown in popularity because of its safety and because it’s family friendly. Local attractions include “Busch Gardens,”  “Colonial Williamsburg,” and “Water Country USA.” Children will attend the neighborhood schools of York Elementary, York Middle, and York High School. Residents will discover remarkable shopping centers, amazing restaurants, and a plethora of places worship close to the community. For further information regarding Yorktown log on to,_Virginia.
