Houston Heights is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas. It is located about four miles northwest of downtown. The borders are roughly  North Shepherd and North Durham Drive on the west, Loop 610 on the north, Studewood Street and Airline Drive on the east and I-10/ Katy Freeway on the south. This is a real neighborhood with tree lined streets where people know their neighbors and walk their dogs. The area has public transportation and has easy access to downtown for commuting. Home tours are offered twice a year, in the spring.  It offers a good opportunity to see the interiors of some private homes and to get a feel for the neighborhood.

The Heights is also a historic neighborhood with wonderful Victorian homes that were built over one hundred years ago along Heights Boulevard. There are also many bungalow style homes. There are also apartments and multi-family homes in this neighborhood. Prices have remained quite steady in this popular area and it is still one of the most affordable areas to live in.

The Heights Playground  was constructed 15 years ago by the residents of the Heights to offer families in the neighborhood and their children a place to come and enjoy. It was built in a style that reflects the character of the neighborhood. It is still a popular spot today. It is located in Donovan Park.  

Parents in the Heights have lots of choices when it comes to schools. Harvard Elementary School, Eighth Avenue Elementary School, Love Elementary School, Helms Elementary School and Field Elementary School are all within the boundaries of this community as are Reagan High School and Houston Heights High School.

Select Specialty Hospital-Houston Heights offers care to patients who require longer acute care than most hospitals are able to offer. They have an award winning wound care center that specializes in long term care for non-healing wounds. It offers a more intimate setting with large hospital capabilities.

There are several religious institutions within the neighborhood including St. Anne de Beaupre Catholic Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Milroy Community Center is located adjacent to Milroy Park  where there is a playground and tennis courts. The center hosts playgroups and senior events weekly and is available to rent. The park is fenced in and offers lots of paths and also space to just run around. Additionally the neighborhood has Donovan Park, Lawrence Park, Halbert Park and Love Park.

In all, Houston offers 300 miles of interconnected trails for residents to enjoy. The Heights Bike/Hike Trail  goes through the neighborhood and offers miles of great walking and biking opportunities.

The neighborhood is convenient for shopping and dining with lots of options located within the borders of the area.
