Great St. Patricks Day festivities in Houston

St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday to celebrate and one of the best places to do so is in Houston, TX. Houston offers an exciting array of festivities perfect for everyone to enjoy. The city shows its Irish culture for the entire St. Patrick’s weekend, offering plenty of Irish themed treats, music, and other activities for the entire family.

Here are some places to get started:

Houston kicks off its Irish pride at noon on March 16th, a day early, with the 54th annual Houston St. Patrick’s Parade. This parade is one of the largest in the country and is a fun two hour event for the entire family to enjoy. The parade features floats and marching bands. The parade even allows anyone to sign up to be a part of this Houston tradition, making this parade large and memorable.

After the parade head over to Houston’s oldest sport’s bar Griff’s. Griff’s throws one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parties in Texas. The party lasts for multiple days in March with the St. Patrick’s Day weekend being the largest of the festivities. The bar is perfect for those with music in mind as they will be offering live music all day. Great Irish food can be had until the wee hours of the morning and washed down with a cold glass of Guinness. A fantastic place to share some great beer and tunes with friends.

On Sunday, March 17th start your day off with the Tour de Houston. This is a fundraising bike ride to help support the local Texas parks and other green areas that have been affected by the large drought conditions spreading throughout Texas. The bike ride holds an after party after the event for anyone involved and great for families to attend as it does not last very long. After giving support to a great Texas cause the rest of the day can be spent visiting the great assortment of Irish Pub’s. McGonigel’s Mucky Duck opens its doors at noon for the Irish and Irish at heart. The Mucky Duck throws an all day celebration complete with Irish food, song, and dance to enjoy. You can spend the entire day with the assortment of music being offered at the Mucky Duck under their large tent. The pub is rated one of the top places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the United States, and it shows with the delicious assortment of Irish food being offered.

For those looking for assortments their are plenty of choices for great bars to visit on St. Patrick’s Day. Sherlock’s Baker St. Pub opens at 4pm on March 17th and claims one of the largest outdoor block parties in Houston. Irish Pub Kenneally’s is another great offering that is great for those wanting to go ‘where the locals go’. This pub is generally low key, and a great place to sit back and drink a beer with a few close friends.

Houston spans its St. Patrick’s Days festivities over the entire weekend and leaves no room for boredom. The city offers a fantastic assortment of live music and great traditional Irish food on most of its street corners. The entire day can be lost moving from one pub to another.
