Neighborhood Guide Briarwood Park in Tulsa ok

Briarwood Park is a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma located to the southeast of downtown.  It is primarily a residential neighborhood where the average home price is between $90,000 and $125,000. It is located between East 41st Street and East 31st Street and includes part of Hicks Park on South Mingo Road. Many of the homes date from the  1960’s and 1970’s and are styled accordingly. They have 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2 plus bathrooms and are on spacious lots. There are no sidewalks in the neighborhood but since most of the streets are not through streets the area is quiet and walking on the edge of the streets, in this quiet neighborhood, is a great way for residents to walk to the park or just get some exercise. The Broken Arrow Expressway is nearby making commuting quite easy.

There are quite a few schools for parents from this neighborhood to choose from. Some of them perform much better than others on standardized state tests and yet are no more popular with students and parents than the ones which are not as high performing. Among the schools nearby are Skelly, Henry Zarrow , Mayo, Clark and Columbus Elementary. They are all public schools and less than a mile from the community.

 Hicks Park has one of the city’s nine community centers. It is a state of the art center with a gym and lots of exercise equipment.  This 20 acre park also has a playground, tennis courts and half a mile of trails.  There is one athletic field as well as picnic tables. It is a popular place for residents to come for classes and activities at the community center.  The Mingo Trail  which runs for 3.75 miles from 11th to 81st streets winds through the park and if you are taking a long walk or bike ride, there are restrooms in Hicks Park that are quite welcome.

There is plenty of shopping in the area. East 41st Street has lots of small shopping centers that offer a variety of local businesses as well as plenty of dining. When it comes to grocery shopping, there is a Reasor’s on East 41st Street just outside the neighborhood and a Walmart Neighborhood Market is also close by. An Akins Natural Foods is located on East 51st Street less than a mile away.  When it comes to Mall Shopping the Woodland Hills Mall  is less than 10 minutes away. It is anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, JCPenney and Sears and offers over 165 retailers, services and restaurants.

Briarwood Park is an attractive older neighborhood that is still very affordable and is convenient to schools, downtown and shopping.
