The Scandinavian Christmas Fair – December 5, 2009

The Scandinavian Christmas Fair will be held at the Holshouser Building at the State Fairgrounds.

This fair is an authentic celebration of the traditions of the Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about the customs of the Scandinavian countries. Artisans and vendors offer crafts and gifts from all over Scandinavia. The Raleigh Christmas Parade – Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 9:30 AM

The Greater Raleigh Merchants Association start the Raleigh Christmas Parade at Hillsborough and St. Mary’s Street. From there, the parade will move to the State Capitol, turn right on Salisbury Street, left on Morgan Street, right on Fayetteville Street and continue onto Lenoir Street where it will end.

The Raleigh Ringers

The Raleigh Ringers, a community Handbell Choir, will present several concerts in Raleigh, NC this holiday season. There are not many handbell choirs as accomplished as the Raleigh Ringers.

The Holiday events presented by the Raleigh Ringers will be held at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in the Meymandi Concert Hall. Early Bird tickets are available until December 1, 2009 for $14.00. Tickets purchased after December 1st will be $18.00 for adults, $16.00 for seniors sixty and over, or $14.00 for students. All tickets purchased at the door will be an additional $2.00. Early bird tickets can be purchased by clicking on the date you’d like to attend below. Tickets are also available on Ticketmaster.

Raleigh on Ice Brier Creek Commons – November 14, 2009 to December 10, 2009

A new tradition! An outdoor skating rink for adults and children at their favorite shopping center, Brier Creek Commons. There will be free admission on Wednesdays for those who donate at least three canned food items to the skating rink. Cost for adults is $7.00 and children is $5.00 and includes your skate rental. Open only during shopping center hours.

Holiday Open House at the Raleigh City Museum – November 16-November 21, 2009

The Raleigh City Museum is having a special Open House holiday event. They will have delicious desserts, coffee and hot apple cider as you stroll through the gift shop. All merchandise will be discounted. The event is free of charge.

A Carolina Christmas Show – November 19-22, 2009

The Raleigh Convention Center is hosting their 34th annual show. There will be over 250 exhibitors, entertainment and food, along with Christmas giveaways, live trees and more. Bring the whole family!

History Corner: Christmas Trees – December 3, 2009 10 – 11 AM

Winterfest Celebration and Tree Lighting – December 4, 2009 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Not only Santa will be at this Christmas event! This community celebration will feature figure skaters, choirs, bands and many other entertainers. Ira David Wood III will do a reading. There will be food, drink, a tree lighting and a country music headliner.

Historic Oak View County Park – December 5, 2009 5:00 PM

Oak View Park will offer sleigh rides and cider: A Winter Night at Oak View

Admission is free. An antebellum farmstead features an 1855 Greek Revival house, cotton gin house museum, livestock barn, pecan grove and more.

A Christmas Carol – Showing Dates are December 8-16, 2009

Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Festival – NC State Capitol – December 10, 2009

Music performances and children’s activities will commence at 5 pm. The Governor and first gentleman will light the tree at 6:30 during a traditional ceremony on the South Plaza.
