Things to do for Halloween in new York City for Children

New York City has a variety of Halloween activities each year. However, some of these events and activities are designed to allow children to create fun and memories each Halloween season. Many of the Halloween events have become family traditions among residents in New York City. Many of the events are scheduled throughout October in a way that allows families to enjoy each of the events without having to choose between them.

Boo at the Zoo

Many New York City families have made Boo at the Zoo a Halloween family tradition. Hosted at Bronx Zoo, admission is free if children wear an animal costume. Not only will they learn about the animals housed at the Bronx Zoo, but they will get to hear spooky stories, participate in a costume parade, ride on a musical hayride, and enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed activities. Children Museum of the Arts

The Children Museum of the Arts (CMA) has a variety of Halloween events scheduled throughout the month of October. The most popular events include the Halloween Festival and the Square Spot Party. At the Halloween Festival there is a variety of crafts, projects, activities, and other treats for the kids. The children can dress in their Halloween costume and participate in a trick-or-treating parade. American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History has an annual Halloween celebration that children of all ages enjoy. Families will enjoy live performances, art projects, crafts, pumpkin carving and more. Admission is free of charge, and there are also meal packages available for this event. 

Ghouls and Gourds

At the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, they plan Ghouls and Gourds for Halloween each year. This event is free for children under 12 years old. Jack-o-lantern Story time

Story time at the Mount Vernon hotel Museum and Garden is even more fun during the month of October. Children will get to listen to stories about jack-o’-lanterns and other Halloween icons as well as participate in craft projects. You also get to take a tour of the museum and see what Halloween may have been like back in that period of time. This event is designed for children under the age of six. To take part in this event you will have to buy admission to the museum.

Queens Farm Haunted House

Queens County Farm really gets into the Halloween spirit each year. Aside from fall festivals and corn mazes, they also organize a Halloween haunted house for children. Children get to experience hayrides and Halloween treats. Some of these treats include mulled cider, apples, and pumpkins.
