With the rich autumn foliage, Manchester, New Hampshire is gorgeous in the fall months. In this beautiful season there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy, as well as simply admiring the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. Here is a guide highlighting just some of the things you can do in and around Manchester in autumn.

One of the best fall activities is to simply enjoy the peaceful environment as you admire the fall foliage. You can do this as you are on a hike. Some nice places for this include Massabesic Lake full of wooded scenery, the Rockingham Recreational Trail, which passes through two lakes, a pond, and a river, or through one of the many trails available in the White Mountains. As you hike you will be floored by the beautiful New England autumn scenery. There are also plenty of great campgrounds where you can make your excursion an overnight adventure.

There are also fall foliage train rides that you can partake in that travel through New Hampshire, such as the Hobo Railroad, which will take you along the Pemigewasset River, and the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, heading along Lake Winnipesaukee. This can be an excellent way to enjoy the beautiful New England scenery, and is easy to access from Manchester.

You should also plan to take some time to explore Elm Street in the downtown of Manchester. Back in 1838 when the city was developed by Amoskeag architects, Elm Street became the main downtown street. This street is neat because it dead ends in two places. There are many interesting shops, cafes, and restaurants on Elm, making for a great day of window-shopping.

The autumn is also a nice time to learn about the history of the area, and the Millyard Museum is a great place to do this. Located in one of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company’s old mill buildings, there is a delightful introduction to the city in this museum.

Next, you can take a break from the outdoors and enjoy the Currier Museum of Art. This museum holds a great collection of art pieces of different styles and time periods. Some of the highlights include works by Georgia O’Keefe, Andrew Wyeth and Claude Monet. The architecture of the building is also quite special, as it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

As you can see, the fall is a great time to visit Manchester, New Hampshire and take advantage of all the beauty and activities this area has to offer. Have a nice trip!
