Saving Money in Kansas City Mo

Saving money in Kansas City, MO is effortless. The cost of living is affordable and the city has an excellent public transportation system for commuters and pleasure-seekers. As a 25 year veteran of Kansas City living, I offer a few tips for living comfortably on a modest budget:

* Live in Midtown Kansas City, MO for affordable housing and shopping within walking distance.

Midtown rent is still the best deal in town. Huge turn of the century homes and apartments start at $600 per month for 2 bedrooms, formal dining room, patio or sunroom. Off-street parking, water and trash service are usually included at no extra cost. Shops, eateries and entertainment venues are plentiful and never more than 3 blocks from any residential address.

* Save money on gas and parking with a monthly Metro Bus Pass.

The Saturday Swap and Shop at the 63rd Street drive-in is nothin’ fancy (as we say in the Midwest), but second-hand deals are plentiful for thrifty consumers. At least half of the furniture and decorative items in my childhood home were drive-in deals from the Swap and Shop! Sellers arrive early and the good stuff goes fast, so plan to arrive before 10am.
