Top Five Pizzeria’s in Minneapolis, MN

As a native Minneapolis resident, and an avid pizza consumer, I have accrued a list of the top five pizza joints in Minneapolis, MN.

Pizza Luce – Having locations in Downtown, Uptown, and Seward, this pizza joint is accessible from anywhere in Minneapolis. They have a great variety of pizza options as well as a great beer selection. While Pizza Luce draws more of the urban crowd, the atmosphere is still fun and inviting. In addition, they host a free concert every summer jam-packed with popular local bands at their Uptown location where you can eat pizza, drink beer, and listen to music all day and all night. What could be better than that?

Mesa Pizza – Located just off the University of Minnesota campus in the Dinkytown area, this pizza joint is a popular destination for hungry college students. Mesa Pizza has a large counter filled with pizza’s that have innovative and fun toppings. My favorites include Macoroni & Cheese, Cheeseburger & Fries, and Cajun Chicken with Mashed Potatoes. You can order by the slice or request a full pie for a group. For an interestingly tasty experience, head to Mesa Pizza in Dinkytown.

Green Mill Restaurant & Bar – While Green Mill has numerous locations throughout the midwest, the original location on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis remains the best of the best having a family friendly atmostphere in the restaurant and a bustling crowd in the bar. Advertised as having authentic Chicago-style pizza, this pizza joint’s reviewers claim that it’s pizza is better than anything found in Chicago. While I wouldn’t go as far as to make that accusation, this pizzeria is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Not only do they make some of the best pizza around, they have a impressively large menu with all sorts of other options as well as a forgiving happy hour. Try Green Mill on Hennepin for a truly great experience.

Punch Neapolitan Pizza – The long lines of people waiting outside this Calhoun Square pizza joint should tell you just how good it is. Punch has some of the best ingredients of any pizzeria in Minneapolis. While the rather large waiting bench is usually overflowing with people, the food is definitely worth the wait puttings its prepackaged cousins found at the supermarket to shame. Not only do they have some of the best pizza in Minneapolis, they also make superb salads with some of the freshest ingredients. For a great dine-in or takeout experience, visit Punch Neapolitan Pizza at Calhoun Square!

Old Chicago – Old Chicago is known for their deep dish pizza, and perhaps the only thing more impressive than there deep dish, is there monumentally large beer selection and a fun customer rewards program that goes along with it. Located on Hennepin Avenue, this pizza joint has a great pizza joint atmosphere. Since this location is next to all the action, head here on a Friday or Saturday during the summer. You can sit on the patio, eat pizza and share drinks before heading to some of the best bars in Minneapolis.
