Free Things to do in Minneapolis

There are many things to do in Minneapolis. You can attend parades, go to festivals, and go to museums. There are many other  attractions. Many of these things are free. Minneapolis has many things going on all through the year.

Are you the type of person who enjoys Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure? The expo happens in November. This includes free presentations and demonstrations, and of course advice for enjoying the outside in the winter time.

Thursday evenings they have free admission to The Walker Art Center. This is a great way to be able to enjoy modern art.

Coming up in right after Thanksgiving is the famous Holidazzle Parade. This is a wonderful parade that is magical to watch. However if you didn’t get to see it on the first night, no worries. This parade happens not once but fifteen times, every Thursday through Sunday until December 18th. This is a wonderful time for families to spend time together. Now that will get you into the holiday season. They have different marching bands performing each time so there is something new each parade.

In January, they have the Winter Carnival. This is held in St. Paul. This carnival is famous for huge ice carvings and displays. They also have another parade which is The Torchlight Parade. They have ice racing, and ice skating that is free. The snow sculptures are amazing to look at too.

In February, the City of Lakes Loppet is held. This is a great spectator event you can watch if you love cross-country skiing. There are competitors from all over the world that compete.

Yes, another parade in March, for none other than St. Patrick’s Day. They also have kids crafts, coloring and games for those families who want to celebrate with their children. These events are for the Irish at heart.

In April, they celebrate Earth Day with Clean up Events. They also have a Recycled Art Fair. Children will love the opportunity to help clean up the city and then have some fun activities to do. They also have big giveaways, and give demonstrations for cooking.

The Como Zoo celebrates Earth Day too. They have an annual party. It has a theme and gives families a visit with zoo keepers and they have entertainment for you as well. Another great thing, this is free as well.

The Puppet and Mask Theater in Minneapolis has a May Day Parade. Then a 200-person pageant takes place, with children and adult dancers and a live orchestra. This is a great activity to expose your families to.

June of course has a spectacular array of events. First, they have an event that takes place on the first Sunday in June, Grand Old Day. This parade takes place on St. Paul’s Grand Avenue.

Father’s Day Weekend has the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts. There is much to see and do and many free things for your family to participate in.

At the end of the month in June they have the Tri-Loppet, where you can watch kayak racing across the lakes.

In July, they have the Minneapolis Aquatennial. This happened in the third week of July. They have lots of activities that include milk carton boat races, sand castle sculpting contests, and live music. They have a great fireworks display and best of all, this summer festival is free.

At the beginning of August they have the Art Fair Weekend. Three art fairs held on the same weekend, which include local crafts and fine arts, and they sell many other things too.

The Irish Fair of Minnesota takes place in August also. This festival has dancing, music and sports and is free. This takes place in Harriet Island, St. Paul.

As you can see there are many free things to do in Minneapolis. You have to find out what is going on in the community and take advantage of the free opportunities especially if you have a family and want to expose them to several different things in life.
