Fall Activities in Grand Rapids Artprize Fredrick Meijer Gardens Hayrides

Autumn is a beautiful season and there is nowhere better to enjoy this wonderful season than in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The bright colors and cool days makes getting outside and enjoying nature a real pleasure, and this city offers many exciting things to see and do.

The months of September come alive with various orchards and farms offering such delights as apple picking, hayrides, and fall color tours. Bring the kids along and visit Klackle Orchards. You and your children can enjoy a fun day playing with the animals at their petting zoo, enjoying a hay ride and even playing a round or two of pumpkin golf. They are open Monday through Saturday 9-6 and on Sundays from 12-6 so you have plenty of opportunities to visit.

There are also many other farms around Grand Rapids that offer special fall activities for families so be sure to check around if you would like to spend a day on the farm.

You can also visit the Fredrick Meijer Gardens and enjoy their Colorfall program that runs from September 18th through to the 31st of October. Here you will not only see thousands of colorful chrysanthemums in both outdoor and indoor settings but you can view the beautiful sculptures and learn something new from the seasonal demonstrations offered during this time.

The fishermen among you, will enjoy a day catching the big salmon that run in the Grand Rapids area in the fall. You can rent a boat or catch one of these big ones right downtown in the Grand River.

You can also take a walk around the John Ball Zoo and see many beautiful animals in their natural habitats or visit Michigan’s only zoo aquarium. Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the zoo as the summertime crowds have all gone home and there are still plenty of animals who also enjoy the brisk autumn temperatures and bright sunny days.

For the art lovers among you Grand Rapids is a must visit stop during late September and early October. This is when this city holds their Artprize competition. Artists from around the world display their latest art work here. Not only do you get to see some awesome art but you also get to cast a vote for the winner of the $250,000 grand prize. No matter where you go in the city during this time there will be a display by artists near you as the entire community participates and enjoys this annual event.

For those of you who enjoy being indoors during the fall months there are some wonderful museums scattered about the city. The Grand Rapids Public Museum does not only have some wonderful historical exhibits but they also have a planetarium where you can visit and learn about the stars and the constellations.

The Gerald Ford Museum is a wonderful tribute to our 38th president and gives an in depth look into the events that shaped his presidency.
