Weather the rain by heading to the Discovery Center of Iowa. Offering over two-hundred exhibits, the Discovery Center is a great hands-on opportunity to encourage lifelong curiosity. Kids are not the only ones who love the Discovery Center, so you know you will have a good time too. Have a seat in the air brake chair and lift your own weight using a pulley system. Create your own seven-foot tornado. Or use flip flops to create your own music in the Good Vibrations exhibit. If you cannot make it to the center, head to their website and take a look at their home activities options. It may be raining, but you can put together a stomp rocket, which you will have fun using when the rain dries up. Explore the mysteries of science for a day. Summer hours for the Discovery Center are Monday through Thursday from 9:00am until 5:00pm, Friday from 9:00am until 7:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am until 5:00pm, and Sunday from noon until 5:00pm. It is only $6.50 for the general public, $4.00 for children ages 3 through 17, $5.50 for seniors aged 60 and up, and free for members and children ages 2 and under. Head over to the Public Library. There are plenty of events to keep your children occupied. Be sure to check the calendar of events so you head to the correct branch. The Hillcrest Branch has summer afternoon specials for ages 6 through 12. Lasting for about an hour, kids get to make beautiful creations. There is story time for younger children, which will vary on day and time depending on the branch. Also popular at the Boise Public Library are the puppet shows and summer reading programs for all ages, even you Mom and Dad. Take part in some of the fun! If hanging out at the library is not intriguing for your children, pick up a couple of Kidpacks. Kidpacks are extremely popular multimedia theme kits. They include videos, books, puzzles and other activities. The Kidpacks are great for pre-school to elementary aged children.
