Farragut Naval Training Station was formed during World War II and named after David Farragut, first admiral in the United States Navy and the leading naval officer in the Civil War.

A mere 5 miles east of Athol no visit is complete unless you take a moment to drive the grounds of this former naval base and tour the brig turned museum. Perhaps you’ll be blessed with a tour from one of the former officers that just happens to be visiting that day.

Finish your visit to Athol with a tour of Bayview, Idaho and visit the old smelters. Keep an eye out for wildlife and perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to spot a moose or some of the local sheep on the cliffs of the area.
