Salty Dog

For over forty five years the Salty Dog has been offering cold beers and hot specials in midtown Gainesville.If you are craving a pitcher of cold beer, get together with your friends and take advantage of the $4.95 specials on selected beers. There is a special every day of the week which keeps this bar among the most popular in midtown. Happy hour brings $1.25 domestic drafts and 50% off on selected other drinks. This is not the place for a gourmet meal, the food is typical bar grub with plenty of salty and spicy items to get and keep you drinking. It’s a friendly, crowded, smoky college bar and the kids love it. It may not be the place for a more mature crowd but if you are young at heart, give it a try. No live music but there is a jukebox.

Mothers Pub and Grill

Mothers Pub and Grill  is Gainesvilles newest sports bar and with 13 HDTV’s you aren’t going to miss a moment of the game that you want to watch. While you are enjoying your favorite sports you can also enjoy the drink specials including $1 drafts everyday and $2 burgers Wednesdays from 3-9pm.

The beer menu here is quite extensive and if you are a beer lover you may want to participate in the promotion “Drink the Wall”. There are 34 beers on the wall. If you sample all of them you will be eligible for prizes, and even if you can only make it part way there will be prizes for you. Be sure to have your card punched to prove you are doing the deed.

The food menu here is unique. It isn’t typically an Irish pub but there is the token Shepherd’s Pie. The rest of the menu is very Florida with lots of fish, Cuban items and pub grub like wings, rings and burgers. More unusual are the vegetarian ZuZu Petals, the Fish that saved Pittsburgh Sandwich and the Brew Crew Brats. They recommend you try one of their salads with the dressing made by “Mother”, and why not.

8 Seconds

If you are looking for a country bar where you can line dance and enjoy your favorite country music then 8 Seconds is the place for you. You can play pool and woman will enjoy the ‘Ladies Night Specials”. There is a cover charge and on Saturdays for the $20 admission it is all you can drink. Be sure you have a designated driver if you decide to take advantage of this offer.
