A Golfers Guide to Destin Florida

A trip to Destin, located on Florida’s panhandle, will reward visitors with amazing sugar white sandy beaches, clear emerald waters, and wonderful weather. The area is a playground for sun worshipers and anglers, and there are plenty of restaurants, shopping, historical sites, natural wonders, and all kinds of water sports. And Destin is a golfer’s paradise, with beautiful courses designed for the beginner, the intermediate golfer, and for the “old pro.”

Indian Bayou Golf Club offers 27 manicured holes, perfect for beginners. Right in the middle of Destin, the fairways are wide, making them easier to navigate. With the water features, lakes, and ancient pines, the links are challenging enough for intermediates, too. The 18-hole course is par 72 with 6,958 yards, and the 9-hole course is par 36 and 3,500 yards.

Regatta Bay Golf Course has eighteen holes of championship golf, a clubhouse, a pro shop, and an award-winning restaurant. The course was designed by Robert C. Walker and was voted as one of the top 200 places to play in North America by Golf Digest. Golfers will find challenging greens and fairways, perfect for the experienced swinger. The par 72 course contains 6,829 yards of great golf action.

Seascape Golf Club is another course that would be great for experienced golfers. The fairways and greens are lush and well maintained, with 6,100 yards winding through beautiful forests and around lakes and sand dunes. Fifteen of the eighteen holes offer challenging water features, and several holes have gorgeous gulf views. The course has a par 71.

Golf Garden of Destin provides a wonderful destination for beginning golfers and for novice golfers to work on their game. The lighted 9-hole course is 2,455 yards with a par 29. The 10-acre practice area with its 10 multi-pin target greens provides a great place to hone your skills. There’s also a snack bar and a pro shop.

Sandestin Dune Harbor Resort, designed by golfing legend Tom Jackson, offers year ’round play for every level. All the tees are par 72, with the championship level 6,971 yards, with a slope of 125. The middle level includes 6,323 yards with a 117 slope, and the forward tees provide 4,981 yards with a slope of 114. A golf pro is available on site. Even if you didn’t bring your clubs, you can still enjoy the links at Dune Harbor with a set of their rental clubs.

Kelly Plantation provides beautiful first-class manicured links, just right for the intermediate player and the resort golfer. Fred Couples and Gene Bates designed the course to be “not too hard, and not too easy,” but with a very playable layout. Several holes offer great views of the Choctawhatchee Bay, and players will find a practice area, friendly service, and a top-rate restaurant and clubhouse serving free snacks to visiting golfers. Female golfers often site this course as one of their favorites.

Golfers who are passionate about their sport would probably enjoy the game at most any venue, but Destin’s courses are well maintained, well designed, and several offer spectacular seaside views of the sparkling green waters. The course managers have made an extra effort to ensure quality golfing for players of all skill levels and abilities. Whether you’re a titleist, just learning the game, or even a first timer, Destin has a course designed especially for you.
