Real Art Ways Events in Hartford Ct

If you have a passion for art and enjoy a sense of community, you will appreciate Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT. Today Real Art Ways is hailed as one of the country’s most innovative contemporary art spaces.

This multifaceted art center has something for everyone. Visual arts, the cinema, and live arts are housed in the building at 56 Arbor Street. The story began in 1975 when the founding members found a location on Asylum Street. This group of musicians and visual artists based their organization on the idea of the alternative. It still remains committed to supporting new disciplines and ideas. Their motto says it all as they see to “creatively engage, build, and inform audiences and communities.”

On the brink of extinction in 1989, Real Art Ways found its home on Arbor Street. Not only did they find a home, but they found a community. Real Art Ways has taken an active role in the Parkville community from summer programs in the park and public art projects to neighborhood planning committees. With all their work in the community, it has not prevented the organization from renovating and improving their space.

The cinema was opened in 1996. Take a seat in the comfortable theater and enjoy independent films from all over the world. Offering showings seven days a week, regular admission is $9.00 while members pay $5.00. There are discounts for students and seniors.

If you purchased a cinema ticket, you have free access to the gallery. The main gallery and the Real Room showcase the works of emerging and living artists. Real Art Ways focuses on the up-and-coming artists to help them through the critical point in their career. The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday from 2:00pm until 10:00pm. It is open from 2:00pm until 11:00pm on Friday and Saturday. The suggested donation is $3.00.

The hours of the gallery coincide with the hours of the Loading Deck Lounge. Opened in 2002, Real Art Ways wanted to create a space for people to hang out and discuss the arts. It is quickly becoming a local hotspot. Whether you are looking to debate an independent film or just relax and read a book, you will find a comfortable spot in the lounge. Enjoy a variety of lattes, wines, and beer. The lounge is available for everyone. Whether you are a soccer mom or you have city chic, everyone is welcome to hang out and join in the discussions.

Offering a variety of events from Third Thursday’s Creative Cocktail Hour to Family Fest, this former typewriter factory turned contemporary arts organization has it all. One visit and you will be hooked. Real Art Ways welcomes everyone who enjoys the arts.
