Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo sits on an 80-acres property in historic City Park, an urban park located in central Denver, Colorado. Owned by the city, it has been in operation since 1896, when they received an orphaned American black bear. The zoo houses approximately 4,000 animals from 700 species. Considered one of the top attractions, it invites more than 1.6 million visitors a year. In addition to viewing animals, the Denver Zoo has children and family programs throughout the year, including overnight sleepovers, a book club, teen programs, and the zookeeper experience. The zoo also has a train and carousel.

Lakeside Amusement Park

Established in 1908, Lakeside Amusement Park is the largest one in the Rocky Mountains and is one of the oldest amusement parks in the United States. Located northwest of downtown Denver, Lakeside sits next to Lakes Rhoda and features a picturesque view of the Rocky Mountains. It has more than 50 rides, which includes 16 specifically geared toward children. Kids’ rides consist of a kiddie rollercoaster, canoes, race cars, boats, and a kiddie Ferris wheel. The parks Cyclone rollercoaster is a recipient of the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) Coaster Landmark and Coaster Classic awards. Lakeside also has park space for family picnics.  The amusement park only operates from May to September.

Children’s Museum of Denver

The Children’s Museum of Denver is in the Central Platte Valley of Denver, Colorado, serving children newborn to 8-years-old. Its mission is creating a community for children and adults to learn and play together. The museum has more than 10 interactive activities where kids get to play and learn at the same time. The Center for the Young Child is designed for children newborn to four years old, helping them develop motor skills, language skills and cognition. Downtown Aquarium

The Downtown Aquarium mixes fine dining and a look at some of the most fascinating creatures living in the waters. Approximately 150,000 gallons of water surround the restaurant, with exhibits containing more than 500 fish and marine life species from around the world. The aquarium also has a desert exhibit. The Downtown Aquarium offers family and children’s programs, such as Marine Biologist for a Day, sleepovers, summer camps, and behind-the-scene tours. The tank surrounding the restaurant relaxes diners with it vast array of colorful tropical fish. It serves seafood dishes, steak and kid-friendly dishes like hamburgers, pizza and small servings of pasta.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

For more than 100 years, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has served as a multiplex for the exploration of science and nature. The facility consists of exhibitions, an IMAX theater and a planetarium. Exhibitions feature displays and activities about anthropology, geology, health science, paleontology, space exploration, and zoology. Kids will be fascinated with the T. Rex Encounter, which offers and explanation in Spanish and English. The Discovery Zone has interactive activities like puzzles, building blocks and storytelling. Museum programs include children’s workshops, parent/child workshops, day camps and indoor camping.
