Best Shopping Area in Denver

One of the most popular shopping areas of Denver is also one of its most historic. South Pearl Street or as it is often called Old South Pearl Street, developed along the corridor created by the trolley car line that was built to connect Jewell and  Alameda Avenues. As the area around the University of Denver grew up, so did South Pearl Street. The street became a commercial center with multi-purpose buildings going up to provide space for the small businesses that people were looking for. The Depression caused some problems for the neighborhood but it was the exodus to the suburban malls of the 1960’s and 70’s that changed the flavor of the neighborhood.

Artists filled in the empty spaces and an eclectic array of studios and boutique took the place of mom and pop businesses. Today, the Light Rail has replaced the trolley and moves thousands of passengers through Pearl Street Station every day. Many of them will stop to dine and stroll and enjoy this exciting and artistic area.

While this is a commercial area in some part, it also has many blocks of residential area. There are  many bungalows and Craftmen style homes as well as row houses. Prices are not inexpensive in the are and given its great location, that is not surprising.

Cameron Church  is located on South Pearl Street. It is a progressive Christian Church that is part of the United Methodist Community. It is open to everyone with no regard for race, sexual orientation or financial situation. There are many ministries within the church to offer everyone who is looking to give of their time and talent a place to do just that.

The University of Denver is located very close to this neighborhood and offers both educational and employment opportunities to residents.

Along with a multitude of restaurants, bistros and coffee shops, the area has art galleries, pottery studios and places to improve your body and your soul. Whatever you are looking for, it is likely you will find it on South Pearl Street or one of the streets nearby.

This is a neighborhood that is never boring.
