The News in San Jose

San Jose is the third largest city in California. It is home to over seven million people. Its communities are covered by several traditional newspapers.

The San Jose Mercury News is a daily paper with a circulation of 575,786. Their Facebook page has over 34,000 followers. The Mercury News can also be followed on Twitter at @mercnews. Owned by Media News Group, Inc., it covers the entire Bay Area. The current editor is David J. Butler.

The Alamaden Resident is a free weekly paper. It covers local news, sports, and community events as well as business news. The paper also previews a lot of upcoming events. The paper is one of several papers that fall under the Mercury News. Owned by Media News Group, Inc. it estimates a circulation of 17,467. Its Facebook page also boasts 244 likes. The current editor is Dale Bryant.

Also serving the Almaden Valley of San Jose is the Almaden Times Weekly and the Willow Glen Times. This weekly community oriented papers also covers local news, business, sports and community events. The papers are owned by Times Media, Inc. The current executive editor is Jeanne Carbone.

Another weekly option is the Willow Glen Resident. It is published on Fridays by the Media News Group, Inc. The paper prides itself on its local coverage. Over 20,000 papers each week announce the local news, features, sports, business and government coverage. The Willow Glen Resident also enjoys over 850 likes on Facebook. Dale Bryant is the current editor.

Published bi-monthly, the Evergreen Times has a circulation of 20,000. The paper covers local events of the Evergreen/Silvercreek Valley community. Like the Almaden Times Weekly, it is also owned by Times Media, Inc. Jeanne Carbone is the current executive editor.

The Media News Group, Inc publishes the Rose Garden Resident. The Resident is a free newspaper with a circulation of 9,100. Its Facebook page also boasts 284 likes. The current editor is Dale Bryant. 

San Jose readers used to read the West San Jose Resident. The Media News Group, Inc. paper had a circulation of 12,825. It stopped publication in June of 2009.

There are two San Jose business oriented papers: the San Jose Post-Record and the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. The Post-Record is a daily business newspaper published Monday through Friday. Jack Briggs is the current news editor. The paper is owned by the Daily Journal Corporation. The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal is a weekly paper, published on Fridays by the American City Business Journals, Inc. It has a circulation of just under 10,000. Both papers are in English.

San Jose residents may also choose from three Spanish papers. They are: Alianza Metropolitan, El Observador, and La Oferta.

The Alianza Metropolitan is published bi-monthly and boasts a circulation of 40,000. The weekly paper, El Observador, is owned by Hilbert Morales and has a circulation of 19,612. It focuses on the Hispanic society and culture. La Oferta is also published weekly on Fridays. It is the oldest Hispanic publication and is bilingual. Its circulation is just under 10,000. The current editor is Mary Andrade.
