Whether you are moving to Huntsville, Alabama for the first time or just getting your first place, there are some basic public services that you need to know about. This will help make life more comfortable at home and on the go.

Huntsville Utilities

Huntsville Utilities is the company you receive your electric, gas, water, sewage, and garbage collection. All of these services come on one bill. They are a publicly owned, non-profit organization. To find out current rates, please check their website.

Before receiving service from Huntsville Utilities there are a few things a new resident needs to know. There is a deposit due upon starting an account with Huntsville Utilities. You will need a reference letter from your previous utility company or a co-signer to qualify for the $100 deposit. If you cannot provide this, the deposit is $300. After 36 months of good payment history, $200 plus the interest earned will be applied to your bill. However, the $100 left in your deposit account will stay in the account while you continue to have service with Huntsville Utilities. There is also a $60 activation fee when you set up your account. This is a non-refundable fee.  For more information or to set up service, call 256-535-4448.
